The first problem
was the clothes.
01 / The body
Not a theory. A daily fact.
I have sensory processing disorder. I have had it my entire life, though it took until adulthood to have a name for it. What that means in practice: my nervous system does not filter sensory input the way most people's does. Signals that other bodies attenuate before they reach conscious attention arrive at mine fully intact and stay there. A seam. A label. The hum of a fluorescent fixture. The texture of a fabric against the inside of my wrist.
I also log responses to specific electromagnetic environments. Consistent, repeated, specific responses: airports with dense wireless infrastructure, open-plan offices with stacked access points, crowded transit cars. More cognitive drain. Harder to filter. I kept notes because I needed to tell the difference between a pattern and a bad day. The notes showed a pattern.
This is not a health claim. Whether the mechanism is direct electromagnetic detection or something more complex, the experience is consistent enough to design around. That is what I chose to do.
02 / The search
EMF shielding garments exist.
None of them worked for me.
I spent several months testing what was on the market. There are products with real attenuation specs, real silver content, real third-party testing. I bought them. I wore them. Within hours, in every case, the garment itself became the problem.
Metallised fabrics are stiff off the loom. The seam at the shoulder was a ridge that stayed present through a whole day's wear. The collar sat wrong in a way that does not fade when you have SPD. One product had a woven label at the back of the neck with a thread count coarse enough that I could feel every individual stitch. The garment technically worked. Wearing it was its own sensory event.
I tried adaptive clothing next. Tagless basics. Flatlock seaming. Fabrics chosen for how they feel against sensitive skin. None of these garments provide electromagnetic shielding. That is not what they are designed for. The two markets existed in parallel, addressing different problems, with no overlap.
The intersection I needed, measured attenuation and a sensory profile that does not add load, had no products in it.
03 / The decision
Build the one that doesn't exist.
The decision was not dramatic. It was practical. I had documented a problem with no solution on the market. I had enough materials science background to understand that the tradeoffs were not fundamental: the properties of silver fiber that make it effective for shielding are also properties that benefit sensory tolerance. Fine filament. Conductive. Antistatic. Temperature-stable.
The gap was not a materials problem. It was a design-priority problem. Nobody had built for both requirements simultaneously because nobody had been trying to. The shielding market builds for attenuation. The adaptive market builds for motor and mobility needs. Our specific intersection was not in either brief.
Flux Frequencies is the result of starting with both requirements as equal constraints and not shipping until they coexist. Every design decision runs through two filters. Does it attenuate at spec? Does it add sensory load? Both must clear. Neither is optional.
The attenuation specs are published per garment, with the test method and frequency alongside the number, because a number without context is not a specification. You know exactly what you are buying. That is the standard I needed as a buyer and the one I hold the line to as the builder.
04 / The community
This problem is not rare.
Sensory processing differences are common across the autistic, ADHD, and chronic illness communities. Reports of electromagnetic sensitivity cluster in those same communities. The overlap is not small. It is a substantial population with a specific, unmet need that neither the EMF shielding market nor the adaptive clothing market has addressed.
The people on the Flux Frequencies waitlist are not a niche. They are people who have been buying products that didn't work, improvising accommodations that didn't fully hold, and reporting experiences that the broader market responded to with either dismissal or fear-based marketing. Neither response is useful.
Every garment in development is tested by people from the SPD and neurodivergent community before it ships. Fit feedback. Sensory reports. Real-world use cases that shape the next iteration. The people who need the product are the ones who know whether it works. I designed it for my own body, and I am testing it against many bodies like mine.
